We didn’t truly finish last time when I was telling you about different types of lawnmowers that you can choose from. Last time, it was only a small show of small machines. But this time, it is going to get bigger!
riding lawn mower
So, your lawn is big, and you are so sick of walking behind and can’t even think about pushing any machine forward anymore. This is where all these big guys come in. First up is the riding lawn mower. (For the sake of this article, by ‘riding lawn mower’, I refer to the smaller type of ride-on mowers, compared to tractors or zero-turn-ers). They may be called the smallest from all that is in this article.
Why do you choose a riding lawn mower? Well, as stated, basically, it is because your lawn is very large, and walking behind a mower will be exhausting. A riding lawn mower with average size can help you with a wider area of grass in even fewer patches when compared to the small guys. If you know how to drive a car, and you want to just sit while the grass is cut, then you should get a riding lawn mower. And the results will be very satisfying!
The flaws of these riding mowers are basically the common flaws of the big machines. Well, they are big. You can’t put them in a garage when you’re done. You cannot truly fix them by yourself. They are noisy, smoky and take a lot of energy to run. They require a big deal of maintenance effort. And of course, they will be more expensive too. Generally, they cost more than $1000, and you would really have to take your needs into consideration.
A little bit bigger then the ride-on mowers, these guys are even suitable for industrial farming and businesses. The footprint is usually around 3ft. wide, and that is a whole different level than the mere 16 inches that reel mowers provide. If your lawn is only several square feet, then you probably don’t need this bulky machine.
Usually, a lawn tractor has better grass management than ride-on mowers. They have a few more options for grass clippings, cutting heights and residue treatment. Some brands also offer garden tractors – that are, in their core, a lawn tractor, with extra functions like soil tiling, furrow digging or fertilizing.
Also, garden tractors usually have more horsepower. This can be used when the tractor is going uphill – lawn tractors sometimes can overcome consecutive hills in your garden or field. The more horsepower, the easier it is for you to maneuver around your property.
But then, with great power comes great… price. Garden tractors are – understandably – more expensive than lawn tractors. Mainly, garden tractors range from $2000 to $9000, while the most lucrative of lawn tractors are only around $3000. If you don’t actually do heavy business on a field of several acres, then the tractors may not be for you.
zero turn mowers
Well, their name says it all about why you should choose them rather than the other powerhouses. Zero turn can be roughly understood as, they can turn while standing still – and that results in better control in your garden than with other vehicles.
The main usage for best zero turn mower are at professional lawn-catering businesses. They use these mowers for higher productivity, because of their ability to work several lawns a day. Imagine having that capability literally in your hands: you won’t ever need a gardener again.
Again, the size of these mowers is both their strength and weakness. By being big, you have to carefully contemplate your needs and necessities, and whether or not they are an overdraft to your backyard. Because zero turn mowers (like other lawn vehicles) are worth a very large sum of money, you wouldn’t want to make a fatal misjudgment.
Caring for your lawn is certainly a lot of hard work and decisions. But the bearing fruit won’t disappoint you: your children have a nice place to play in, you have a beautiful view out the window, and your neighborhood is that much better when your lawn is taken great care of. Be a wise customer and gardener.
